PC Systems Test Engineer
Description:
Do you want to be on the cutting edge of the computer industry? VOLT has an immediate need for a PC Systems Test & Development Engineer. This is a long term, full time consulting opportunity with the Systems Test Team of a prominent semiconductor company in the Southwest Austin area.
Responsibilities include:
* Determines specifications, then plans, designs and develops the most complex and business critical software/hardware solutions, utilizing software/hardware engineering processes, either individually or with other engineers
* Researches and maintains knowledge in emerging technologies and possible applications
* Apply knowledge and principles of PC architecture in order to trouble shoot hardware compatibility issues.
* Develops CPU/system level applications and custom integration solutions including major enhancements, interfaces, functions and features
* Test and configure multiple systems in order to determine functional issues/failures on laptops, desktops and server systems (testing could include capturing test results and inputting data into database)
* Writing up detailed description of failures seen.
* Assigned projects must be completed in a timely fashion based off expected completion time and customer or program deadlines (Will be managing several different development projects at a time, so it's important to have the ability to multi-task under high pressure situations in order to meet customer and program deadlines)
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills with an emphasis on details and must be able to work in a team environment
* Must be able to conduct and drive meetings with local and remote debug engineers and program management
* Create and recommend test system infrastructures
* Recommend and use remote monitoring tools and assist with product benchmarking and device configuration
Requirements:
* Bachelors in Computer Science, Engineering, Computer Information Systems, related discipline or equivalent experience
* Strong background in PC software/ hardware specifically in PC system architecture and sub-systems (PCIe, memory, USB, etc) and preferably X86 based CPU.
* Extensive experience installing, configuring, administering, patching and troubleshooting Linux operating systems(Red Hat, Solaris, Ubuntu, etc)
* Thorough understanding of network and server fundamentals including services, topologies and security concepts such as firewalls and security; Strong knowledge of data communications (TCP/IP, layer 2/3 devices, addressing, VLANs, Internet); Deep understanding of TCP/IP networking, troubleshooting, architecture and core technologies (AD, DNS, LDAP, NFS, FTP, SMTP, etc)
* Ability to configure SSL, Active Directory, PXE servers and NetApp administration
* Experience with automated test execution frameworks such as Microsoft DTM/WHQL, DTM version 1.3 or 1.4 experience a plus
* Understanding of software development processes and object oriented programming; MUST have strong software background with extensive knowledge of C/C++, SQL, Visual Basic, Visual Studio, .NET Frameworks, Visual C# and Perl
* In-depth knowledge of programming languages for coding, testing and debugging PC's
* Familiarity with the development of device and chipset driver and system BIOS in addition to troubleshooting OS related, device driver and software level problems.
* Experience flashing BIOS using ROM burner or BIOS update utilities
* MUST have knowledge and ability to locate voltage rails, signals and components through the use of schematics.
